Resolution 070-1972 RESOLUTION NO. 70-1972 WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, recognizes the importance of our beaches and shores to the economy of the County; and WHEREAS, Monroe County has many miles of white sand beaches which are of primary importance to the large and increasing tourist industry of the region; and WHEREAS, erosion damage to these beaches is now becoming a major problem; and WHEREAS, the loss of these beaches would adversely affect the important tourist industry; and WHEREAS, if beach erosion is allowed to continue unabated, serious damage will be sustained by upland property owners, both public and private, in addition to the loss of these natural resources so important to the total economy of the region; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners, assembled in regular meeting this 27th day of June, 1972, that the United States Congress be requested to authorize the Mobile District of the United States Army Corps of Engineers to undertake as soon as p os sible a study of the erosion problems of the beaches affecting Monroe County, with such study resulting in recommendations for corrective measures; BE IT FUR THER RESOLVED, that the certified copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Dante Fascell, Congressman, with the request that he obtain Congressional authorization and funding for the Corps of Engineers to initiate such study and make recommendations for corrective measures at the earliest possible time.
