~\QHRO~ RAmOI' r ['.0. MONROE COUNTY FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL
RESIDENTS, FROM KEY LARGO TO KEY WEST.
WHEREAS, the citizens of Monroe County have expressed their
overwhelming support for Public Radio as well as their strong
desire to establish this service in the most cost effective way
for the mutual benefit of all County residents, and
WHEREAS, due to the efforts of concerned citizens, a
petition in support of bringing the WLRN-FM radio signal to
Monroe County was signed by more than 1,000 local residents, and
WHEREAS, Florida Statutes Section l25.0l(f) authorizes the
County to provide "... recreational and cultural facilities and
programs. . ." therefore it is within the authority of the County
to facilitate the establishment of public radio as a cultural and
recreational activity, and
WHEREAS, on April 2, 1991, the Board of County Commissioners
at their meeting in Key West passed a motion that authorized
WLRN-FM to utilize the County's translator towers for the purpose
of relaying their signal to Monroe County residents, now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS that after consulting with the County Attorney and
the County Translator Engineer, the Board reconfirms its motion
of April 2, 1992, authorizing WLRN-FM to utilize space on the
County translator system in order to strengthen the signal power
on frequency 91.3 FM so that residents from Key Largo to Key West
can enjoy the benefits of National Public Radio.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held
on the 13th day of May, 1992.
