Resolution 045-1974 RESOLUTION NO. 45-1974 PROCLAMA TION To each new generation of American citizens comes a new opportunity and responsibility to provide his country with new leadership, fresh wisdom and foresight. As we move into the third century of our independence as a free nation, the responsibilities of leadership will pass to today's generation of youth. In an effort to assist these young men and women, who comprise nearly one-half of our population, in gaining a better understanding of the law and the legal process and their leadership responsibilities, the 17th annual nationwide observance of LAW DAY USA on Wednesday, May 1, will be dir- ected toward youth and the law. The slogan selected to implement the theme will be: YOUNG AMERICA! Lead the Way. Help Preserve good laws, Change bad laws, Make better laws. It is especially fitting that Law Day '74 be devoted to this worthy purpose, for without laws and independent courts, the freedoms we enjoy would be meaningless. Also, it is most timely with the recent passage of the Twenty-Sixth Amendment, granting full voting rights to those between 18 and 21 years of age. We can be justly proud of America's youth for they are playing an ever active role in the continuing growth of our Nation. These young citizens are learning the ideals of America by taking a concerned interest in community action programs embracing student government, civic, social, business, religious and educational activities. In response to the Florida Supreme Court's suspension of all court business on Friday, May 3rd, our local leaders have set aside that day in order that the public might take this opportunity to attend a special program of events de- picting the judicial process and other governmental functions at the Monroe County Courthouse and Annex. THEREFORE, I, Harry Harris, Mayor, Monroe County, Florida, do hereby proclaim Friday, May 3, 1974, as a special day to observe the local court system in action, and urge all citizens of this County to join in its observance through court visitations, participation in bar sponsored programs, ceremonies and activities, and to view the displays and exhibits provided by local, county, and state agencies. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of Monroe County, This 23rd day of April,A.D. 1974. A~ ..y..~_..:(
