Resolution 126-1974 RESOLUTION NO. 126 -1974 WHEREAS, a large and important segment of the shrimp in- dustry, including both production and processing, is located in Monroe County and comprises a vital segment of the economy of the county and the state; and WHEREAS, the shrimp industry, not unlike agriculture, is particularly subject to economic pressures resulting from fluctua- tions in supply, weather, market conditions, inflation, energy shortages, and foreign importation; and WHEREAS, a state of emergency presently exists in the shrimp industry beoause of the combined effects of low dockside prices, high operating expenses, the influx of foreign shrimp, and low con- sumer demand; and WHEREAS, the shrimp industry and particularly the many small independent operators which are its foundation, are threatened with economic disaster unless some form of financial assistance such as increased availability of longer term, federally insured financing and refinancing, is forthcoming within the next few months, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA in regular meeting assembled this 8th day of October, 1974, that: 1. This Board hereby urgently requests the members of the Florida delegation in the Congress of the United States of America to give careful study and attention to the plight of the shrimp in- dustry in Monroe County and the State of Florida and to seek prompt action in support of the shrimp industry, with particular emphasis on all legitimate controls for increasing consumption of shrimp so that this important segment of the economy and supplier of a vital portion of the nutritional needs of the nation may be preserved. 2. Copies of this Resoltuion shall be forwarded to each member of the Florida delegation in the Congress of the United States of America. DATED October 8, 1974.
