Resolution 138-1974 RESOLUTION NO.138-1974 WHEREAS, the State of Florida, Department of Transportation, has placed certain weight limitations on 37 of the 44 bridges on U. S. Highway No.1 in !\Ionroe County, Florida because of the con- dition of the bridges on said highway which are badly in need of repairs and replacement, and WIlEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of ~tonroe County, Florida, has requested the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers for a feasability study to complete the construction of the Intercoastal Waterway proj ect from its present termination at Cross Bank in ~Ionroe County, Florida to Key West, Florida, and WIIEREAS, said U. S. Army Corps of Engineers does not have sufficient funds to conduct a feasability study and construction of said waterway from its present termination in Monroe County, Florida to Key West, Florida, and WHEREAS, said Board feel s that completion of said Intercoast a1 Waterway Project would result in increased operations in handling materials, supplies and foods, and alleviate the said problem on the bridges on said U. S. Highway No.1 in Monroe County, Florida, due to tonnage increase of over 1 million tons and therefore justify said completion, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY TIlE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, assembled in a regular meeting this 5th day of November, 1974, a~ Marathon Sub-courthouse, that the Honorable Dante Fascell, Monroe County, Florida's Representative in the House of Representatives, and Senator Lawton Chiles, Florida Senator in the United States Congress, be and they are hereby requested to seek a Federal appropriation in order that the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers may conduct a feasability study and construct said waterway from its present termination in Monroe County, Florida to Key West, Florida. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY SAID BOARD as foIIOl'is: That the project generally described above is in the best interests of the Applicant and the general public. -2- That said Jack Burke, County Development Director, is hereby authorized to furnish such information and take such other action as may be necessary to enable the Applicant to qualify for said request. That the Official designated in the preceding paragraph is hereby designated as the authorized representative of the Applicant for the purpose of furnishing to the United States Army Corps of Engineering such informat ion, data and documents pertaining to the application for said request as may be required and otherwise to act as the authorized representative of the Applicant in connection with this resolution. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY SAID BOARD that certified copies of this Resolution be forwarded to the above named Representative and Senator. DATED November 5, 1974.
