Resolution 137-1975 RESOLUTION NO!37 1975 WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida has determined that Monroe County, in order to meet its financial obligations and responsibilities imposed by law, needs and must have additional sources of revenue and that the proceeds from an additional 1% sales tax is the fairest and most equitable way to meet these needs, and WHEREAS, such sales tax, in order to be fair to all concerned, should be imposed statewide so as not to discriminate between the various counties and the citizens and taxpayers thereof, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA that the Florida legislature, at its next session, is urgently requested to enact an additional 1% tax on sales, use and other transactions, following the general purposes and intent of Committee substitute for House Bill 292 of the 1975 session, providing that 50% of the proceeds thereof go to reduce the local ad valorem tax burden and the remaining 50% of the proceeds thereof be used for purposes desired by local government WITH THE EXCEPTION that instead of merely authorizing local government to levy such tax, the law provide for a statewide levy with the entire proceeds collected in each County to go to such County for such purposes. That it is ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE that said bill, when enacted, shall provide that all taxes collected shall be paid to local government without any administrative or other charge or expense being retained by the local dealer or the state or any agency thereof. ~~ -2- That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Governor of the state of Florida, the State Association of County Com- missioners and, to all members of the local legislative delegation.
