A RESOLUTION' dF lTHE BOARD OF COUNTY
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, REQUESTING
CHILES TO POSTPONE THE SEPTEMBER 1ST
FOR TWO WEEKS.

GOVERNOR LAWTON
PRIMARY ELECTION
WHEREAS, on August 24, 1992, South Florida was hit by
Hurricane Andrew, a Category 4 Hurricane; and
WHEREAS, as a result of this Hurricane, parts of South
Florida have experienced one of the worst natural disasters in
history, leaving many homeless and without food and water; and
WHEREAS, in the aftermath of this devastating event, the
September 1st primary election is upon us; and
WHEREAS, the Board desires to have said election postponed
in order to allow time for essential services to be restored
and to allow enough time for voting residents who left the area
to return; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows:
Section 1. That the Board hereby requests Governor Lawton
Chiles to postpone the September 1st primary election for two (2)
weeks.
Section 2. That the Clerk of the Board is hereby directed
to forward a copy of this Resolution by facsimile transmission
and by certified mail to Governor Lawton Chiles.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a special meeting of said Board held
on the 27th day of August, A.D. 1992.
