WHEREAS, Florida International University afforded vital
assistance during Hurricane Andrew to Monroe County by providing
mass shelter facilities at the University Park Campus for Monroe
County residents, including those with special and medical needs,
and
WHEREAS, Florida International University staff, including
maintenance personnel and Campus Police, under the leadership of
Dr. Modesto A. Maidique, and Dr. Leonardo Rodriguez, Vice
President, provided the support necessary to accomplish a most
successful sheltering effort during Hurricane Andrew
which
contributed to saving many lives, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and Board, on behalf of
the residents of Monroe County, recognize, thank, and commend Dr.
Maidique and his staff for their outstanding efforts during
Hurricane Andrew and respectfully request their continued support
and cooperation in future such disaster situations to maintain
the spirit of mutual assistance established during that difficult
and trying experience.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on
the 18th day of November, A.D. 1992.
