MONROE COUNT.J:L(jRANT APPLICATION TO THE FLORIDA GAME AND
~ggH WATER FISH COMMISSION UNDER THE FLO~!DA
NONGAME WILDLIFE PROGRAM TO RESTORE AND ENHANCE
THE HABITAT OF THE STOCK ISLAND TREE SNAIL
WHEREAS, the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish
Commission established the Nongame Wildlife Advisory Council
to guide the implementation of Florida's Nongame Wildlife
Program; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the Nongame Wildlife Program is to
maintain or restore the richness and natural diversity of
Florida's native nongame wildlife, and to establish an
integrated and coordinated approach to the management,
conservation and appreciation of nongame wildlife; and
WHEREAS, the funds available for large grants are for
projects with budgets over $5000.00 with no match
requirement for the fiscal year July 1, 1991, to June 30,
1992; and
WHEREAS, the Stock Island Tree Snail is a state-listed
endangered arboreal snail presently found only on the north
side of Stock Island in the Florida Keys; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the grant proposal would be to
restore and enhance the habitat of the snail on Monroe
County grounds where the last remaining concentrated
population exists; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, that:
I. The County Administrator is hereby directed to
submit a grant application to the Florida Game and Fresh
Water Fish Commission under the Florida Nongame Wildlife
Program and to execute all necessary documents in
furtherance thereof, and
2. This resolution shall become effective immediately
upon adoption by the Commission and execution by the
Presiding Officer and Clerk.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Monroe County
Commissioners at a regular meeting of said Board held on the
~ day of January, A.D. 1991.
