Resolution 153-2005 RESOLUTION NO. 153 - 2005 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, URGING THE SOUTH FLORIDA WORKFORCE NOT TO CLOSE ANY OF THE THREE ONE-STOP CAREER CENTERS OR REDUCE FUNDING IN MONROE COUNTY WHEREAS, since inception about five years ago, the South Florida Workforce's One Stop Career Centers in Key West, Marathon, and Key Largo have assisted almost 20,000 Monroe County Citizens obtain vocational training, labor market information, and assistance with unemployment claims, resumes, as well as many other employment related services; and WHEREAS, the centers are now located fifty miles apart, in Key West, Marathon, and Key Largo; and WHEREAS, the centers operated by the Florida Institute for Workforce Innovation have operated since 1985 and delivered quality services to our citizens while meeting all performance goals set by South Florida Workforce; and WHEREAS, the closure of centers will create a hardship to those seeking services and places services at a distance of one hundred miles apart; and WHEREAS, the centers are currently being considered for closure by the South Florida Workforce are due to budget cuts; and WHEREAS, the current funding falls below the 6 percent liability indemnification of Monroe County; and WHEREAS, due to its vital contribution to the citizens of Monroe County, the closure of any One-Stops or any funding reduction is strongly opposed by the County Commission of Monroe County; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, that: 1. The County Commission urges the South Florida Workforce not to close any of the One- Stop Career Centers due to the undue distance impact on and hardship created to the citizens of Monroe County. 2. This Resolution shall become effective upon the date of its adoption herein. One Stop Center Res, 3. The Clerk is directed to mail copies of this resolution to the Executive Director of South Florida Workforce, Representative Ken Sorensen, and the Miami-Dade County Workforce Attorney Peter Tell.
