RESOLUTION NO. 549 -1989
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMIS-
SIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING
TR~ RESTORATION OF THE KEY WEST WOMEN'S CLUB
AiD REQUESTING AND ENCOURAGING THE STATE OF
FiPRIDA DIVISION OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION TO
ASSIST BY PROVIDING GRANT FUNDS THEREFOR.

WHEREAS, the Key West Women's Club is a l892 private
residence which has been owned and maintained by the Key West
Women's Club for over fifty years, and
WHEREAS, this building once served as the town's first
public library, and is also very significant architecturally to
the National Register District as one of the few Queen Anne
buildings in Key West and one of the very few brick edifices on
the island, and
WHEREAS, this building exhibits a very high caliber of
workmanship and is located on one of the town's busiest streets,
Duval Street, which is popular to locals and visitors to the
island as well, and
WHEREAS, because of the buildin~ location, beauty and
historical significance, it is the focus of much attention to the
hundreds which pass by, and
WHEREAS, under the aegis of the Woman's Club, the building
has been well preserved, but restoration and rehabilitation
efforts are currently necessary to maintain the major wood
elements and the exterior of the structure, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board hereby supports the
restoration of the Key West Women's Club, and hereby requests and
encourages the State of Florida Division of Historic Preservation
to assist in this restoration effort by providing grant funds
therefor.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
the Board at a meeting held on the 20th day of September, 1989.
