AN HISTORIC PRESERVATION STATE GRANTS-IN-AID
PROGRAM APPLICATION TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR
THE STABILIZATION OF BUILDINGS ON PIGEON KEY
WHEREAS, the Department of State has announced a
funding cycle for State grant-in-aid assistance for historic
preservation projects; and
WHEREAS, the projects eligible for grant funding in the
Acquisition and Development category support acquisition,
preservation, protection, restoration, rehabilitation, and
stabilization of historical and archaeological sites; and
WHEREAS, the funds available are between $15,000 -
$20,000 with a matching fund requirement; and
WHEREAS, on March 16, 1990, the island of Pigeon Key
and its structures were officially listed in the National
Register of Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, Monroe County conducted a safety survey August
28, 1991, and made recommendations for site improvements to
satisfy safety and liability issues; and
WHEREAS, the project would permit the stabilization of
the existing structures by termite extermination, roof
repair, woodwork repair to eliminate safety hazards, and
weatherproof painting, now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that
1. The County Administrator is authorized to submit a
grant application to the State Grant-In-Aid program for the
stabilization of structures on Pigeon Key, and that
2. This resolution shall become effective immediately
upon adoption by the Commission and the execution by the
presiding Officer and Clerk.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners
of Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said
Board held on the 20th day of November, A.D. 1991.
