AGENDA ITEM WORDING:
Authorization for the Monroe County Sheriff to negotiate the purchase of a helicopter to replace the
aircraft recently removed from service.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
TraumaStar was recently removed from service due to much needed maintenance. Upon further
inspection and review, it has been determined that the costs of maintenance far exceed the value ofthe
airframe. Replacement of the aircraft is therefore recommended. A replacement aircraft has been
located that meets the operational needs of the county.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
The BOCC approved an RFP for the provision of trauma flight services. Responses to the RFP were
rejected by the BOCC because of excessive cost and non-conforming responses. The BOCC approved
the concept of purchasing an aircraft contingent upon Part 135 Certification to offset operational costs.

Authorize the Sheriff to negotiate a contingent purchase contract on behalf of Monroe County.
Purchase monies available with approval of the revised 304 capital program on today's agenda.
