ITEM BACKGROUND: The contract for local police services was approved by the Board of County
Commissioners on June 28, 2000.

$1,098,860.46 and plan to transfer 2001 surplus as credit to Village oflslamorada is approved.

Resolution Acknowledging FY 2002 Negotiated Rates for Local Law Enforcement
Services for Village of Islamorada and Approving Transfer of FY 2001 Surplus
Whereas the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners entered into a Contract for
Local Police Services with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Village of Islamorada
on June 28, 2000, and
Whereas the contract called for the Sheriff and the Village to renegotiate rates for FY 2002, and
Whereas the Sheriff and the Village Commission have agreed to new rates for that period as set
forth on the attached Exhibit A,
Whereas a surplus of funds owed the Village remains from the FY 2001 contract period and
the Sheriff and the Village have agreed upon a method of crediting the surplus to the Village
subject to adjustment after audit by the County's external auditors,
Now Therefore Be It Resolved:
1. The FY 2002 rates set forth on Exhibit A are approved.
2. On or before September 15,2001, the Sheriff will provide the Village of
Islamorada a written estimate of surplus funds remaining after payment of the obligations of
the Village under the current Contract for Local Police Services. The estimated surplus will be
credited against the October 2001 payment due the Sheriff. The credit will be adjusted as
necessary when the county's auditors complete their audit of the Sheriff. Any adjustment will
be made in the month after the audit is finished.
