As the Sheriff of Seminole County,l am going to donate $500 frorryi proceeds seized under the Florida
Contraband Forfeiture Fund to support the annual Florida Missingghildren's ceremony, to be held at the
State Capitol, in Tallahassee on September 11, 2006. Thi ceremony honors police officers and
civilians statewide who have assisted in missing child ca ,and raises statewide awareness to help
prevent child abduction and sexual eXPIOitati~*~~ '\ '
Will you join me today by contributing at leas $2 frory! your own trust fund, and show your agency's
support for this important statewide, lawenfor em -,sponsored event?
The Legislature created Florida Missing Children's Day in 1999. The annual statewide ceremony is
organized by the FDLE Missing Children Information Clearinghouse Advisory Board. I serve on the
' Advisory Board representing Florida Sheriffs.
Governor Jeb Bush attends the ceremony. Law enforcement officers and civilians who under special
circumstances have aided in missing child cases throughout the state are presented the following
awards:
Local law Enforcement Officer of the Year
State Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
Federal law Enforcement Officer of the Year
Law Enforcement Task ForcelTeam of the Year
Law Enforcement Trailing Team of the Year
School Bus Operator of the Year
Citizen of the Year
Evelyn Williams Memorial Award
John and Reve' Walsh Award
Fifth Grade Essay Contest Award
Florida's law enforcement community is joined by the families of missing children and by the families of
chiidren who did not survive their abduction. 100 elementary school children are invited. All those
present bring greater awareness to crimes against children and help to prevent them in the future.
Sheriff, in light of Florida's legislature passing the Jessica Lunsford Act due to the senseless abductions
and murders we have recently experienced across our state, I believe the most beneficial use of our law
enforcement trust fund monies is support of Florida Missing Children's Day. Please participate in this
year's event by returning your agency's contribution and the accompanying form filled out, and by
attending Florida Missing Children's Day 2006. I am enclosing a aVD recording of the 2005 Florida
Missing Children's Day ceremony, which will illustrate the significance of this event.
Thank you for your consideration of my request and your support, I hope to see you in Tallahassee
on S ptember 11,2006.
