EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION December 30, 200 1 Mr. Jim Roberts County Administrator, Monroe County 1100 Simonton Key West, FL 33040 Dear Mr. Roberts: This letter is to request that Jim Gilleran and/or Amy Culver be allocated ten minutes at the January BOCC meeting in Key West during your "Sounding Board" hour. Jim and Amy have developed a program and presentation to promote fiiendliness and customer service throughout the city. Using the international sign ofhospitaJity - the pineapple - this program reinforces the need to respect our island's only industry. Originally a 20-25 power point presentation, Jim and Amy will condense the presentation to fit the time limit. Upon completion of the presentation, Jim and Amy will present pineapple pins to you and the County Commissioners to show support for this "friendly attitude" that we need to display toward each other, as well as toward our guests. Given the events of September 11, it is more important than ever that we are welcoming to tourists. Attached is a Fact Sheet on the pineapple program that shows the support the program has already received. Commissioner Spehar participated in one of our seminars and urged that we get on the schedule to make a presentation to the BOCC. The widespread television audience that your meetings attract will help us to spread the word about this important program. It is my understanding that the next Sounding Board will occur in the afternoon of Wednesday, January 16,2002. Please schedule our presentation at a time certain if possible. You can reach me at 295-9424 or 849-9424 to confinn our participation. Thank. you for your consideration of this request. ~~~ Henry Woods Executive Director OHI 405 'URaNIA STREET · SUITE 8 · KlY WEST.
