To Monroe County Emergency Management:
The National Weather Service in Key West would like to congratulate the Monroe County
Emergency Management staff on becoming a successfui applicant of the StormReady program.
Americans live in the most severe weather prone country on Earth and Monroe County and the
Florida Keys are the most likely location to be hit by a hunicane in the U.S, Your hard work and
efforts in severe weather preparedness have given the citizens and visitors of the Florida Keys
better chances of successfully minimizing losses during severe weather. As the County's
emergency operations center, your preparedness efforts are very important.
Ninety percent of all presidentially declared disasters are weather related. Now that you are a
member of the StormReady program, you have the 8kills and education needed to survive severe
weather - before and during the event. Monroe County is now better prepared to save lives from
the onslaught of severe weather through better planning, education and awareness. The County
will have fewer fatalities and property damage due to your valuable phuming before the
dangerous weather anives. - .
The office will receive 2 StOlmready road SIgns, authorization to use the Stnffi1ready logo and
information concerning the notification of the Insurances Services Organization (ISO) for
possible adjustment to insurance rates. The recognition WIll be valid for 2 years from the date of
the formal announcement. You will be notified by the Local Advisory Board within 6 months of
the expiration date on how you can reapply,
The next step is to coordinate a formal recognition ceremony, This will require a formal media
announcement and will be a combination of the unveiling of the road signs and a subsequent
press conference, If you need more information on the StormReady program, contact the
National Weather Service in Key West at 305-295-1316 or visit the Stormready web site at
