RESOLUTION NO. 027 -2002
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
OF MONROE COUNTY. FLORIDA RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE
OF SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS TO THE 18 MILE STRETCH OR C-
905 OF US ROUTE 1 FOR THE OFF -ROAD BICYCLE-PEDESTRIAN
PATH
WHEREAS, the East Coast Greenway Alliance has been working over the past decade to
establish a safe, firm-surface bike-ped route linking our eastern seaboard cities; and
WHEREAS, the East Coast Greenway Alliance is part of the National Millennium Trails bike
program for the United States designated by Secretary Slater in 1999; and
WHEREAS, the East Coast Greenway Alliance is to provide a bike path from the top of Maine
to Key West, Florida; and
WHEREAS, the State of Florida has signed on to participate in the East Coast Greenway trails
through the entire state of Florida including the Florida Keys; and
WHEREAS, the critical linkage has been the 18 mile stretch or C-905 from Florida City to Key
Largo; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY:
1. That again we would like to bring to the attention of the Florida Department of
Transportation (FDOT) the need to include this in their revamping of this vital linkage from Florida
City to Key Largo,
2, That the Clerk of Court is to forward a copy of the approved resolution to Mr. Tom
Barry, Secretary of Transportation, Florida Department of Transportation, 605 Suwannee Street,
Tallahassee, FL 32399-0450.
