A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMIssIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FL.ORIDA IN SUPPORT OF ADEQUATE FUNDING FOR THE PUBUC
EOVCATION OF THE CITIZENS OF MONROE COUNTY AND THE STATE OF
FLORIDA
WHEREAS, it is the law of the land that all children are entitl~d to a free and appropriate public
education; and
WHEREAS, the citi2:ens of the Florida Keys and the State of Florida passed a Constitutional
amendment in 1998 supporting adequacy as a determiner of quality in the public schools of Florida: and
WHEREAS, Monroe County comprisu the only .County of Critical State Conc~rn~ with all the
attendant concerns ossociot~d with island living and a vulnerable environment; and
WHEREAS, the eocc recognizes that the most well educated citizenry provides for a high quality
workforce, an improved quality of life for residents and visitors alike and future leadership for civic,
business, ond municipal functions throughout the community; now. therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY,
FLORIDA, that
Section 1. The eOCc supports adequacy of funding to create a nationally recognized and top
ranked public educational system throughout Florida and the Florida Keys. We acknowledge that this
investment in our future is in our and florida's but interest. We further acknowledge that in life and in
business we get what we pay for.
Section 2. The Governor of Florida, the Honorable Jeb Bush and the Florida Legislature are
urged to find the resources, the political courage and the public will to place Florida into the top twenty
percent of States in educational resources, accountability and productivity.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a
regular meeting of said Board held on the 20th day of March, 2002.
