RESOLUTION NO. 113 -2002
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNlY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNlY, DESIGNATING ALL COUNlY ROADS ON DUCK KEY
APPROPRIATE FOR GOLF CART USE
WHEREAS, many residents of Duck Key desire to use golf carts as they go
about their daily business within Duck Key;
WHEREAS, the County Commission desires to assist the residents of Duck Key in being
able to use golf carts for personal transportation within Duck Key; and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Division has examined the County roads on Duck Key and
after considering such factors as the speed, volume and character of motor vehicle traffic
using the roads, has determined that the County roads on Duck Key are safe for golf cart use;
now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNlY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNlY, FLORIDA that pursuant to Sec. 316.212, FS, all County roads on Duck Key are hereby
designated for use by golf carts from sunrise until sunset. The Public Works Division is
directed to post appropriate signs to indicate that golf cart operation is allowed on the County
roads on Duck Key as set forth in the Memorandum from County Engineer David S. Koppel which
is attached to this Resolution as Exhibit A, and made a part of it.

Golf Carts
Duck Key Roads
On 2-7-02 I performed a traffic study to determine whether golf carts may be operated
safely on the County roads on Duck Key.
The following recommendations are offered.
1. Approval of golf carts on the County roads of Duck Key from sunrise to sunset
2. Placement of a sign indicating that golf carts are permitted. Installation on the island
side of the Tom's Harbor Channel Bridge (1st bridge).
3. Placement of a sign at each of the following bridges (both sides) warning of golf
carts: Duck Key Bridge (1 st humpback bridge), Bimini Dr., Harbor Dr., Seaview Dr,
4. Placement of an auxiliary sign" lOMPH" to be attached to the signs indicated in 3
above. This is due to the limited sight distance on the bridges.
5. Remove conflicting signs.
