ITEM BACKGROUND:
The annual 4th of July Parade has between 65-70 floats, groups, bands, etc. attracts thousands of
residents and visitors.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC AcnON:
This Parade is usually approved by The Florida Department of Transportation, but this year DOT is
requesting that information and approval come from the County also.

A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE TEMPORARY CLOSING OF THE

WHEREAS, The Reporter Newspaper annually sponsors the 4th of July Parade in Tavernier;
and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to temporarily close the Northbound Lanes of US 1 from MM
98.2 at Anthony's Clothing Store to MM 100 at the Holiday Inn from 10 AM to 11:30 AM for the
Parade; and
WHEREAS, the 4th of July Parade usually has between 65 and 70 floats, groups, bands~ etc.;
and
WHEREAS, the 4th of July Parade attracts thousands of residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, The Florida Department of Transportation has requested that Monroe County
also authorize the closure as stated herein; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF COUN1Y COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUN1Y, FLORIDA hereby authorizes the closing of the Northbound Lanes of US 1 from MM 98.2
at Anthony's Clothing Store to MM 100 at the Holiday Inn from 10 AM to 11:30 AM for the Annual
4th of July Parade sponsored by The Reporter Newspaper.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida,
at a regular meeting of said Board held on the 19th day of June, 2002.

Dear Mr. Caldera:
It's that time of year again - we're gearing up for the July 4th Reporter parade.
As in the past, we are requesting, with your permissio~ closing the
northbound lane of U.S. 1 in Key Largo from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The specific area is between MM 98 at Anthony's Clothing and MM 100 at
Waldorf Plaza.
Traffic from the northbound lane is rerouted via Grand Street at the south,
through to the southbound lane of u.s. 1, which is converted to two lanes of
travel. Standard traffic is reestablished at Laguna Avenue.
We have sign-off from the Monroe County Sheriffs Office as well as from the
County Administrator.

Dear Ms. Henson:
The Department has reviewed the information recently submitted for the subject site and
finds that additional information must be supplied before permits can be processed. Listed
below are comments and additional information and docwnent must be provided:
I. The applicant, for a temporary closing/special use of the state roads request, must
be the local governmental authority (Monroe County) in accordance with the
Florida Administrative Code Chapter 14-65, Section 14-65.0035(IXc).
2. A certified copy of an excerpt from the minutes of a duly scheduled meeting, or
duly executed resolution, of the governmental authority authorizing the special
event and the designated position (Mayor, City Manager, etc.) authorized to sign for
the body, in accordance with the Florida Administrative Code Chapter 14-65,
Section 14-6S.0035(l){d) 1.
In closing, The Department is committed to expediting the permits for this project upon
satisfaction of complying with aforementioned items. If you have any questions or concerns
