EMERGENCY DIRECTIVE 20-01
March 16,2020
SUBJECT: Warning Against Public& Private Gatherings of 50 or more
WHEREAS, the Mayor declared a State of Local Emergency on Sunday, March
15, 2020, in order for the County to take actions to protect the health, safety, and
welfare of the community due to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, that declaration warned the public against any gatherings of more
than 250 people; and
WHEREAS, following that declaration, the Centers for Disease Control issued
updated "social distancing" recommendations to warn against any public gatherings
of more than 50 people; and
WHEREAS, that declaration and Section 11-3 of the Monroe County Code vest
the Emergency Management Director with the authority to issue emergency
directives; and
WHEREAS, in the interests of protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the
residents and visitors to Monroe County, it is:
ORDERED that
1. The public is warned against public and private gatherings of more than 50
people in any one location and encourage to practice "social distancing"
whenever possible.
2. Per F.S. 252.46(2), this order shall take effect immediately upon being
filed with the Monroe County Clerk.
